Steve Williams

Headteacher

Rebecca Shimmin

Clerk to Governors

Daniel Eborall

Staff Governor

April Parsonage

Deputy Headteacher and Associate Governor

Kevin Williams

Co-opted Governor and Vice Chair

I have been a governor at Brookhurst Primary School since 2014. Firstly, a parent governor and a co-opted governor since 2019.

All three of my sons attended the school. They all grew academically and socially, developing in confidence as a result of the many concerts, drama productions and sporting events during their time at Brookhurst.

Through my career background in safety training and Management, I have gained experience in a number of areas helpful to the position of school governor, including working within budgets, appraisals and the further learning and development of a nationwide team.

I am analytical and support and objectively challenge decisions if I feel they will benefit the school, staff and pupils.
My further education in Law and Health and Safety helps me assist the school in monitoring and providing the best possible education for our children in a safe environment.
I consistently want the best for all pupils at Brookhurst, and for them to continue developing in an enjoyable, challenging and varied learning environment.

Jonathon Jackson

Parent Governor and Chair

I have three children who love being part of  Brookhurst Primary School. I believe the voice of the parents is important to the running of the school. Working with the teachers and fellow governors, will help continued improvements for both the success of the school and children.

From a degree in Accountancy, my professional career has spanned almost two decades working for a global organisation and operating in an FCA regulated Automotive and Insurance industry. Working with some of the UK’s largest Motor Insurers, Brokers, Bodyshops, Manufacturers and Accident Management companies, I have built effective long-lasting commercial relationships, driving individual and collective success in a results orientated environment. Key responsibilities include leveraging strong business acumen, leadership, and the ability to communicate and collaborate with all levels of colleagues and customers. More specifically key elements of my role will include business to business sales, contract negotiation, strategic vision, direction and innovation whilst ensuring compliance on regulated matters. I also interact and work with multiple departments such as HR, Legal, Accounts whilst coaching, developing and guiding team members. Separately I am part of the companies DE+I committee, headed our regional LGBTQ+ initiatives and also volunteer coaching a local football team.

I believe my diverse responsibilities and  professional and personal experience help contribute to the board of governors and wider community. As a school governor, I am proud to be part of a team that supports the head teacher, and most importantly support the wellbeing and safety of our children.

Tom Moseley

Parent Governor and Vice Chair

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as a parent governor at Brookhurst Primary School. I have a son in Year 3 and a daughter who attends Brookhurst Pre-School, Stepping Stones.

I have a real passion for education and helping children reach their full potential. I have worked in schools for over 13 years in various IT, health and safety, marketing and finance roles, most recently as business manager for a secondary school. It is this experience in education, finance and other school operations that will enable me to positively contribute to the governing body and support the school in achieving its vision of the “Right start, bright future”.

I fully support and share Brookhurst Primary’s vision that all are able to achieve and succeed. I believe my previous experience and career enable me to effectively support the school and become part of the team that supports the headteacher, staff and most importantly, the wellbeing of our children.

Jo Clarke

Parent Governor

I have two daughters who attend Brookhurst Primary School and live within close proximity to the school. Therefore, I have a vested interest in the schools’ policies and impact on local community.

I am qualified Management Accountant with over a decade of experience in the Social Sector, firstly as a Senior Financial Analyst leading on the Care & Support Business stream of a registered social landlord. The Care and Support business provides housing for older people and supported housing through commissioned local government contracts to positively transform people lives. The supported housing services and schemes combine accommodation with support, designed to meet the needs of particular groups, such as, people with mental heath issues, learning or physical disabilities, addiction issues, people at risk of domestic violence, teenage parents, ex-offenders and veterans.

Then more recently, as the Commercial Financial Lead for Reed in Partnership, whose mission is to positively transform people’s lives and communities. I manage the financials of Reed Wellbeing that have multiple contracts with local government and the NHS to provide services to prevent long term illnesses, such as the National Diabetes Prevention Program, Stop Smoking services, Adult, and Child Weight Management, Falls Prevention.

Through my experience in these roles, I have been lucky to talk to some of our most vulnerable customers and hear their stories, those stories are what make me believe so much in Brookhurst Primary Schools vision “Right Start-Bright Future”. As part of the finance leadership team, I help to make decisions on how we can use our skills and resources to best help people. I also hold operational staff to account for their business performance to ensure that we are helping the most people, whilst managing our financial performance.

Emma Neal

Co-opted Governor

I am delighted to be a Co-opted Governor at Brookhurst Primary School. Having worked in Education on Wirral for the last 30 years and more specifically as a Headteacher in the local area I have a good understanding of both the educational and local community in which Brookhurst sits.

More recently I have become an Educational Consultant working both in Primary school improvement and in my not so secret passion of Early Years. I work right across the North West of England and in London supporting different types of schools and settings. I have over the last year been working on the Department of Education COVID recovery plan and I manage teams of experts and mentors on Wirral and in London to support this recovery work.

As a Headteacher of a maintained school, I took our school into establishing a successful multi-academy trust on Wirral. I now work part of my week with a multi-academy trust whose academies are both on Wirral and across multiple local authorities. This gives me a breadth of understanding of maintained schools, multi-academy trusts, schools in a variety of sociology-economic groups and across a variety of local authorities.

I enjoy the role of Governance, being able to provide the supportive yet challenging, critical friend. My significant leadership experience enables me to take on board the multiple styles of working required of a Governor. I subsequently have found myself on another Governing body, an advisory board and as a member of a multi-academy trust.

Most significantly I am a mum of a Year 1 and a Year 5 pupil, I have the same hopes and fears for our childrens’ future as parents of pupils in primary school currently. I completely understand the challenges of family life and am realistic about the expectations placed on parents and families.

I have always worked with children’s best interests at the heart of what I do. I hope Brookhurst will benefit my experience and my passion and drive to provide the best education for children in primary and in the early years.

Alison Pugh

Parent Governor

I’m delighted to be a parent governor at Brookhurst Primary School. Now my youngest is 2 ½ years old I feel I have the time to fully commit to the role. I have 3 daughters, Eliza Y4, Olivia Y2 and Imogen attends Brookhurst Pre-School. They’ve all had an excellent start to their education and I’d like the chance to provide ongoing support to the school in the years to come.

I am a Chartered Management Accountant and have worked my full career at Bank of America in a variety of different roles, I currently work in Risk and Control within Finance. Whilst the corporate world is a different environment to school, there are many transferrable skills I’ve learnt which would help me to be a good parent governor. I’m extremely organised allowing me to deliver in a timely manner. I also regularly host meetings where I’m required to challenge if controls are working effectively, so I’m not afraid to discuss difficult topics and hold leadership at the school to account.

I’ve been a committee member at The Victoria Academy of Dance for the last 2 years, which involves organising fundraising events, and looking after the children at competitions/shows. The experience of working with children from different backgrounds and care needs has made me appreciate how small changes can make a big impact on the children’s experience.

I feel Brookhurst School is changing for the better; I would love to help it continue to grow and develop for all our children.

Marie Bower

Parent Governor

Both of my children attend Brookhurst. I have a daughter in Year 4 and a son in F2 and we have received invaluable support from the school when our children have needed it.

At university I studied the Sociology of Sport and Exercise with a focus on the development and implementation of social policy. I now work for Autism Together, enabling adults with autism to access a range of activities in their community. Some of the key projects I have been involved in include creating accessible pathways in Thurstaston Country Park, establishing a lottery funded trampolining and gymnastics scheme in Birkenhead and running the café in Port Sunlight River Park.

Last year I volunteered with the PTA at events such as Sports Day and the Summer Social. This year I have volunteered to listen to pupils read. It is a pleasure to listen to the Year 5 class read and talk about their books. It has also been great to get a brief glimpse of the school in action.

I would now like to use my time, knowledge and skills to give back to Brookhurst; to support the staff to achieve their vision and ensure the children get the best possible experience from these important, early years in education.
